Meet Adam Thayer
Relentless in the pursuit of excellence.... passionate for learning... blessed with numerous talents.... multifaceted and multilingual.... only begin to characterize Adam, a San Francisco Bay Area native, who has spent most of his life in the performing arts.
After begging his parents to let him take drama lessons, his early theatrical training began at age 12, when he began studying with Lucille Gordon, private coach from New York. In High School, he got a part in every school play he auditioned for, and student-directed the school's Spring play as a Junior. As a theater major in College, Adam was immersed in college and community productions, including summer stock at the University-run Fallon House Theater in the Mother Lode Country of California. It was also during his first year in college that Adam got his first exposure to film acting as background and as a stand-in for Bruce Davison in "The Strawberry Statement" and as background in "R.P.M." with Anthony Quinn and Ann-Margret, both MGM productions. The bug had bitten him, but in the meantime, Adam continued to pursue his penchant for excellence as a professional conference interpreter, earning him plaudits from legendary interpreters at the U.N., Ted Fagan and Nicholas Glebov, and from the organizers of two high-level NATO conferences.
Adam also enjoys his position as an oboe and English horn player in several fine community orchestras; he also conducted a South Bay symphony in an evening of waltzes presented by a well-known Bay Area Waltzing Society. In 2006, Adam founded the Bay Area's newest professional opera company, Trinity Lyric Opera, and ran the Company as it presented critically-acclaimed opera presentations over the next three years. While living in France for several years, he appeared in and directed plays in French, and danced in the role of Siegfried as a principal dancer in Swan Lake Act II, and was featured as the Burgermeister in a gala national dance academy competition, presenting the full-length ballet "Coppelia." Deeply spiritual, faith is a foundational element in Adam's life, enabling him to cultivate a daily walk with the Lord, and to find comfort and purpose in His Providence in both good and challenging times.
As a student of film acting with Celik Kayalar at Film Acting Bay Area in Emeryville, California, Adam studied all aspects of acting for film and has had the opportunity of working closely with Hester Schell, founder of Bay Area Casting News. He continues to study with a number of recognized coaches to keep sharp when audition opportunities come along. Much to his delight, his training has equipped him with the skills needed to be equally as effective behind the lens as well, and his work behind the lens has already earned him recognition as a casting director, and as assistant director on several different projects. He has already had noteworthy opportunities for work in lead roles in award-winning feature-length films, in industrials and in indie shorts. He is a quick learner, always eager to improve and a delight to work with. -

The annual Scary Cow Film Festival in San Francisco was held on Saturday, November 1st, and one of the films that i was co-lead in was shown as part of the Phase II Screening, which means that afterwards, we got to go up front at the Theater for a Q&A, plus, we got a better showtime. In fact, Magic Lantern, directed by Sergey Berezin, screened right at the beginning of the Phase II films. We just got word that Magic Lantern won the Jury award, AND won an award for special effects! Incredibly gratifying news! I got to play the part of a modern-day genie-in-a-lamp, a "real character," quoting our Director. What a privilege being part of the team who worked so hard on this award-winning film! The Director now plans to submit it to the various festivals coming up in the new year, we'll keep an eye on how it does on the festival circuit!

I just got word that i got a part as one of the Doctors in a hospital scene in the film Nine Lives, following a video audition i had submitted last week. The movie is now in pre-production, with Rick Richardson, talented model, actor, and published author as the Executive Producer. Written and directed by Sandra Dee, Nine Lives is a dramatic thriller and a gripping emotional roller coaster comprised of thrills, love, hardships and suspense. My hospital scene is expected to shoot within the next several months. Check out the film's website at www.ninelivesfilm.com You can "like" the film too on Facebook, and help support it!
I also recently got a call-back for two parts i have been very interested in, in a movie dealing with the space program, to be shot in Florida and in Texas... very, very exciting! The call-back will be with the film's Director by Skype. I LOVE the subject matter, this would be a dream part come true.... really hoping i do well!

- COMEDY LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE, RELEASES ENDORPHINS IN THE BRAIN AND REDUCES STRESS. LIVE LONG AND LAUGH OFTEN. I just got a part in a hysterically funny new comedy webseries, be sure to check out "NEWZBEATS", with Pam da Ham and Joanie Baloney, AKA: Adventures in Staying Young. "Newzbeats" is directed by Hester Schell, and stars Pamela Rand & Joan Mankin, with myself, Adam as Bert the Floor Manager, also with Daniel Macchiarini. We have just posted Episode 1, be sure to watch this and turn your anti-laughing gear up to 10 ! Or just leave it off, and laugh your head off! Here is Episode 1, i'm at the very beginning - oh, and please leave a comment if you would, we'd really appreciate that!

- "DIVISION OF LABOR" In December of 2012, i was privileged to do a scene from the Emmy Award-winning series "Breaking Bad" for a Director's reel, shot at one the prestigious film schools in San Francisco; it was brilliantly directed by Brenton Peplinski, wrapping up his studies in the Directing program. I got to play the role of Walter White, opposite Jeff Graham as Jesse Pinkman. It was an incredibly rewarding experience, yet one of the most difficult scenes i had done so far. And it needed to be just right. Take a look...

- "CLOSURE" This short film remains my favorite to date, and was my first opportunity in a lead role. "Closure," directed by the visionary Santiago Claver, is an adaptation of the Robert Heinlein short story "All You Zombies," vintage Heinlein sci-fi, much along the lines of Philip K. Dick, whose short stories have already provided the fuel for six or seven major Hollywood movies. If you are not familiar with the story, at the end, the envelope that is opened by the reporter, contains the deed to the bar which i gave to him, as payment for telling my story in the press. I play the part of John, a time-traveling dad, who goes ahead in time to snatch his son back to his rightful time period.... and as it turns out, i am my son! And my wife too ... i know, go figure, but wonderfully-written Heinlein material, and the screen adaptation is splendid!

- "INTERCONNECTED" This past year, i have been in three award-winning films, one of them "Interconnected," which was screened at the Silicon Valley Film Festival earlier this year, and won the award for Best Director AND Best Picture! I've never had a gun pointed to my head before, and hope i never will, so as an actor, i had to make some smart choices and hunt for a strong substitution for this. Very challenging!

- "REFUGE" I was also privileged to be in a PBS film that shot end of last year, and was screened for the 1st time earlier this year here in SF at the Embarcadero, what a fun event that was. It was also screened shortly thereafter at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. It's part of the on-going "FutureStates" series, and is also now on the PBS website. The screenwriter had conceived of this being turned into a feature length, with lots of twists and turns for the main lead, and during the Q&A session after the first screening, he mentioned some of the possible directions the feature could take.... it is a seriously well thought-through plot, very smart. I don't have a speaking part in it, but am clearly visible in the bus scene, shortly after the beginning, about 5 minutes into the film, typing away on my futuristic IPad.

- "FINAL FANTASY" I received a phone call recently out of the clear blue sky for a great part in an on-going webseries, and barely had 24 hours turn-around to learn four pages of dialogue and digest the part.... this is usual for TV in LA, but apparently even with web content up here in the SF area, there is precious little preparation time. I did manage to get the lines down fairly well, so that helped immensely. You might have heard of the video game Final Fantasy? It's hugely popular, and a webseries is being developed based on that, it promises to be huge. So this was an enormous gift for me. We shot the scene the day after i got the script, and the editing team in turn must have been bionic, as it was posted to the web the following day - good night, i've never heard of such a quick post-production period! Set in the future, i got to play Master Zangan, a martial arts trainer, working with my young padawan, Tifa, who is preparing herself to fight in the resistance and save the planet.... We are sparring with a bot training program, and the scene is from the viewpoint of the bot. See what you think, it's an entirely different role for me, an interesting cross between Morpheus, Obi-Wan and Yoda... with my own intensity thrown in the midst... Fun!

Other Links of Personal Interest
- I have a great many interests that keep me busy beyond performing. Here are some links to websites that i have found to be particularly helpful in a number of areas:
- No less a shameless self-promoter than any other actor, my website highlighting my work in voiceovers is simple, yet gets the message across. I have been in radio for over 33 years, and love using my voice to reach listeners in commercials, industrials, web presentations, anywhere that a voiceover may be used to convey a message:

- One of my film acting teachers, coach, mentor and great friend, Hester Schell, is a recognized director and author. Hester is phenomenal in her knowledge of all aspects of our profession, including scene analysis, characterization, the audition process, and yes, even marketing for actors. Hester runs her own private coaching practice in addition to teaching at several Institutions in the Bay Area and has written a wonderful book about the casting process for directors and actors. She is also the Founder of Bay Area Casting: http://www.bayareacasting.com/ You will especially want to visit her website to become better acquainted with how she helps people like me succeed in film and stage acting: http://www.hesterschellcreative.com To order her book online, check out: http://www.amazon.com/Casting-Revealed-Guide-Film-Directors/dp/1932907874/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpi_1 Thank you Hester, for all you do!
- I especially credit the Film Acting school that got me on my way, and which continues to play a vital role in my profession as i prepare for a wide variety of roles. The accomplished Faculty members at Film Acting Bay Area in Emeryville distinguish themselves especially in their dedication to their students, and for excellence in teaching. The Founder of FABA, Dr. Celik Kayalar, continues to direct and produce award-winning films often using graduates and students of the school as cast members. Thank you, FABA! - Classical music, and opera are another passion of mine, and in 2005, i founded the Bay Area's newest professional opera company, Trinity Lyric Opera. With unanimous critical acclaim for all three of our fully-staged professional opera presentations, we continue to look to the future with exciting premieres and performances with talent from all over the country. In 2006, we dared to present the West-Coast premiere of Vaughan-Williams' masterpiece, "The Pilgrim's Progress" which immediately put Trinity Lyric Opera on the map. - I confess to being a total NASA geek... having followed our country's space program since i was a kid on our black and white television, i still remember Alan Shepherd's first sub-orbital flight... and more recently, as a member of the media, i have interviewed astronauts at press conferences, during radio interviews, and even spoke to astronauts on board the International Space Station as part of the last-ever joint crew press conference with members of the ISS and the visiting crew of space shuttle Discovery.
